On 20–21 April 2026, seven technical teachers from across Europe participated in an international Masterclass dedicated to hydrogen technologies in passenger vehicles.
Hosted by Koning Willem I College (KW1C) in ’s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, the event brought together representatives from Aventus (NL), Hyria (FI), BBS Syke (DE), Salesians Sarrià (ES), Bäckadalsgymnasiet (SE), Kuressaare Ametikool (EE), and Skjetlein Videregående Skole (NO), all partners in the successful Erasmus+ ETN4VET project.
The Masterclass was organized through a collaboration between the ETN4VET network and the AutoCoVE 2.0 project, demonstrating a shared commitment to keeping vocational education aligned with the latest developments in sustainable mobility.
The programme was led by Toon Bertens from KW1C, whose expertise and practical approach guided participants through the rapidly evolving field of hydrogen technology and its applications within the automotive sector.
Throughout the two-day programme, participants explored the fundamentals of hydrogen production, storage, and fuel cell technology, as well as their practical application in passenger vehicles. The learning experience combined theoretical sessions with hands-on activities, including experiments using scale models and a detailed exploration of a hydrogen-powered vehicle. Through his leadership, Toon Bertens ensured a strong balance between technical knowledge, practical demonstrations, and pedagogical perspectives relevant to vocational education.
An important part of the programme was the testing of educational materials developed within AutoCoVE 2.0 and delivered through the Electude learning platform. Participants provided valuable feedback on the learning resources while exploring how such materials can be integrated into vocational education programmes across Europe.
Beyond the technical content, the Masterclass offered an excellent platform for knowledge exchange and international cooperation. Teachers shared experiences, discussed challenges related to emerging automotive technologies, and explored ways to prepare learners for the future demands of the mobility sector.
The event once again highlighted the value of European collaboration in vocational education and demonstrated how projects such as AutoCoVE 2.0 contribute to developing future-ready skills, innovative learning methods, and a stronger network of automotive educators across Europe. Special recognition goes to Toon Bertens and Koning Willem I College for successfully hosting and delivering this valuable learning experience for the international teaching community.
