Latvian Vocational Teachers Explore Future Transport Technologies at Ventspils Technical School

Ventspils Vocational Technical School (Ventspils tehnikums, Latvia) recently hosted a national seminar titled “Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technologies in Modern Education”, bringing together vocational educators from across Latvia to explore cutting-edge advancements in sustainable transport.

Held on October 29–30, the seminar was organized in partnership with SIA Doma as part of the EU-funded project Auto-Cove 2.0, aimed at strengthening vocational training in eco-technologies across Europe.

Over two days, educators from eight leading Latvian vocational institutions participated, including:

  • Ventspils Technical School

  • Riga State Technical School

  • Riga Technical College

  • Vidzeme Technology and Design Technical School

  • Liepaja State Technical School

  • Latgale Industrial Technical School

  • Dobele Crafts and Secondary School

  • Kandava Agricultural Technical School

International Expertise and Hands-On Experience

The first day featured expert-led lectures by specialists in the field, including:

  • Ingo Standke, Training Consultant (Germany)

  • Marcus Klemt, Representative from Lucas-Nülle, a leading developer of technical training systems

  • Artūrs Bogdanovs, Researcher and Lecturer, Riga Technical University

  • Ilvars Udrovskis, Head of Training, Moller Auto Import

Day two focused on practical training, using a newly acquired electric and hybrid vehicle diagnostics training stand. This hands-on session equipped educators with the skills and confidence to integrate modern transport technologies into their curricula.

Advancing Green Transport Education

Ventspils Technical School instructors Toms Čače and Jānis Zālītis were among the local participants. They will now apply the knowledge gained to train the next generation of vehicle technicians, ensuring students are prepared for the rapidly evolving demands of the electric mobility sector.

“By investing in teacher training and modern infrastructure, we are directly contributing to the development of Latvia’s sustainable transport future,” said Ventspils Technical School representatives.

Auto-Cove 2.0 is a European Union-funded project (No. 101102844) that supports the development of innovative teaching methods and training materials for hybrid and electric vehicle technologies. The project involves partners from Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Ventspils Technical School has received €216,229 from the project’s nearly €4.8 million total budget.

Thanks to ANFA, this event was a key moment, opening up new perspectives for the future of mobility training in vocational education, both in France and across Europe.
