Modern vehicles are increasingly equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that support drivers and improve road safety. Technologies such as lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition rely on cameras and radar sensors that continuously monitor the vehicle’s surroundings. For these systems to function correctly, precise calibration of sensors is essential.
To support practical learning in this field, a series of educational videos was produced during an automotive technology training session at Omnia – The Joint Authority of Education in the Espoo Region in Espoo, Finland. The demonstrations are led by automotive expert Antti Järvenpää, with valuable support from teachers Matti Rämö, Jan Borg and Petteri Laine, whose practical expertise contributed significantly to the training activities.
From Preparation to Calibration
The video series introduces the complete workflow of ADAS calibration, starting with the preparation steps required before any calibration process begins. Proper preparation includes checking the vehicle’s suspension condition, ensuring the correct ride height, and verifying the precise distance between the vehicle and calibration equipment.
Video 1 – Checking Vehicle Suspension and Calibration Distance
Before starting any calibration procedure, technicians must verify that the vehicle is positioned correctly and that its suspension condition does not affect calibration accuracy. Even small deviations in ride height or incorrect positioning can lead to inaccurate sensor alignment.
In this video, Antti Järvenpää demonstrates how to check the vehicle suspension condition and verify the correct distance between the vehicle and calibration equipment. This step ensures that the calibration process begins under proper conditions and that the vehicle sensors can be aligned accurately.
Video 2 – Calibration Devices and Their Correct Positioning
Another essential step in the calibration workflow is the correct positioning of calibration equipment. Modern automotive workshops use specialized calibration frames and targets to align sensors with the vehicle’s centreline and ensure precise measurement angles.
In this video, Antti Järvenpää explains the different calibration devices used in professional workshops and demonstrates how to correctly position them relative to the vehicle. Proper alignment of calibration equipment is critical for achieving reliable calibration results.
Camera and Radar Calibration
Once the preparation and equipment positioning are completed, the next step is the calibration of the vehicle’s sensors. Cameras and radar systems require precise adjustment to ensure that ADAS functions operate correctly.
Video 3 – Preparation Work and Front Camera Calibration
Front cameras are used by several ADAS functions, including lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition. After certain repairs—such as windshield replacement or sensor adjustments—the camera system must be recalibrated.
In this video, Antti Järvenpää demonstrates the preparation work required before performing camera calibration and shows the process of static front camera calibration using professional diagnostic and calibration equipment.
Video 4 – Front Radar Calibration
Radar sensors are essential components of systems such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. These sensors must be carefully aligned to ensure that the vehicle can accurately detect objects and vehicles in front of it.
In the final video of the series, Antti Järvenpää demonstrates the front radar calibration procedure, including the positioning of radar calibration targets and the use of diagnostic equipment to complete the calibration process.

These videos provide valuable insights into real workshop procedures, demonstrating how automotive technicians use professional tools and diagnostic systems to ensure that ADAS technologies function safely and reliably.
