Project
background

Auto-Cove 2.0 consortium combats on its own behalf on climate change by developing the European Education and Training Area in Vehicle Sector of VET towards greener innovations. Automotive Engineering field employs 14.6 million people in Europe and the whole field is in the middle of a huge change of technologies. The vehicles produced need to comply with several environmental standards and there is a huge push in the sector towards modern technologies with less environmental impact. The existing curricula in VET schools and the training provided by the VET sector in Europe does not cover the subjects necessary to keep up with the emerging technologies as far as upkeep, maintenance and repair of the vehicles already on the market and in use by the general public.

Project objectives

The key objective for Auto-Cove 2.0 project is stated in the Council Recommendation on VET: ”High quality and innovative vocational education and training systems provide people with skills for work,  personal development and citizenship, which help them to adapt to and deliver on the twin digital and  green transitions, to cope with emergency situations and economic shocks, while also supporting  economic growth and social cohesion. Thereby providing them with skills that help them get or create  jobs in demand on the labor market”, is the key project objective, for which Auto-Cove 2.0 project replies.

Project partnership

Auto-Cove’s consortium forms a big, European wide co-operation triangle between 7 VET-schools,  3 Universities of Applied Sciences, four vehicle field companies and one national research centre. 16 full partners are also joined with 14 associated partners. Omnia, the project coordinator, has worked over 15 years with European development projects. Omnia also participates in one of the first selected COVE-consortiums, GIVE and carries responsibility of project monitoring, quality assurance and risk management of the project. Auto-Cove consortium can via this link directly benchmark GIVE-consortium’s good practises in quality assurance and risk management issues.

The Technology Transfer Centre for Electromobility at the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences 🇩🇪 Technische Hochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt is proud to have conducted a pioneering skills gap analysis in the automobile trade together with the 🇫🇮 VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.

In our study, we analysed the current skills of teachers, professors, vehicle and spare parts salespeople and vehicle maintenance staff in potentially important future subject areas. In doing so, we not only determined the current skills, but also obtained the respondents' assessments of the future importance of these skills in the next 5 years.

Kaunas University of Applied Engineering Sciences (KTK) research is timely, as the automotive industry shifts towards electric vehicles! Lithium-ion batteries, while efficient, face challenges in cold climates. 🇫🇷 SEPR MOVE had an enriching visit to 🇳🇱 Koning Willem I College (@kw1c) in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, on 30-31 January 2024! Emmanuel Colin and Sylvain Zennaro from SEPR were warmly hosted by Auto-CoVE project managers and Automotive Teacher Toon Bertens.

The visit aimed to strengthen ties between VET institutions, explore the school's facilities, and exchange knowledge in mobility and automotive departments. 🚗🔧

SEPR's Automotive Department has already invested in a hybrid vehicle with ADAS accessories. The visit focused on exploring a Hydrogen Vehicle model at KW1C to share theoretical knowledge about hydrogen technology among peers.

Additionally, SEPR met Auto-CoVE partner Electude in Nuenen. Jeroen Smetsers from Electude International presented their e-learning platform, guiding vehicle sector teachers in creating transnational study modules. The collaboration aims to digitalize lessons and enhance teachers' digital and technical skills.
