Omnia’s teachers have been developing entirely new learning materials in the Auto Cove project for about a year. The Auto Cove project team includes both automotive teachers and teachers of mathematics and physics. Similar Auto Cove project teams are working in 10 educational institutions across 8 different European countries.
The development of learning materials for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in the automotive department is led by teacher Antti Järvenpää. He is working on the development with Matti Rämö, Juha Hämäläinen, and starting next fall, also Jan Borg. Content is being developed not only for vehicle mechanic training but also for the sales training of new technology cars and their spare parts.
The sales content is being developed by teacher Anna Nuuja together with VTT’a (Finnish state owned independent technical research centre) leading researcher Merja Penttinen. Sales content has already been piloted in the teaching of car salespeople at Omnia. The Auto Cove project is also developing two national pathway study modules for all vocational technical field students. The developer of the mathematics pathway study module is Aleksi Virtanen, and the developer of the physics pathway study module is teacher Terhi Kokkonen. Both also teach polytechnic pathway studies at Omnia.
In the past year, the automotive department has already piloted the courses developed in the project three times as two-day training sessions. In the images below, students practice calibrating the front camera and front radar of a car under the guidance of Matti Rämö and Juha Hämäläinen.
At the end of the project, all teaching materials developed in it: 13 technical study modules of 15-30 credits and 10 teacher courses will be produced in English and translated into all 8 partner languages of the project, including Finnish. They will be available for free use for five years on Electude International’s electronic learning platform. This electronic learning platform is used by 4,000 technical educational institutions in 70 countries.
